Ümit Şen, MD

Ümit Şen, MD is a pediatrician at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Pediatrics unit. He then completed his specialty training in Child Health and Diseases at İstanbul University Child Health Institute in 1996. Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Şen’s practice is the longitudinal follow-up of healthy children. This includes newborn follow-up, in which feeding, weight gain and early development are monitored, and well-child follow-up at later ages, where growth, development and general health are reviewed over time. He also addresses questions of child and adolescent health as children grow older.

Dr. Şen evaluates a number of common pediatric conditions. These include childhood constipation, iron deficiency and anemia in children, and upper respiratory tract illnesses, which are among the most frequent reasons for pediatric visits. He also assesses childhood infectious diseases with characteristic rashes or fever, such as scarlet fever, measles, rubella and chickenpox. In each case the approach is to consider the child’s age, symptoms and history, examine the child and discuss the findings and options with the family.

How Dr. Şen works with international patients

Dr. Şen speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who prefer another language. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as previous pediatric records, growth charts, laboratory results, vaccination records and any imaging reports, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of possible next steps. Video consultations are available for international patients, which may be used to discuss a child’s condition, review existing reports or clarify questions before or after an in-person visit, with the understanding that some pediatric assessments require examination in person.
