Prof. Dr. Vildan Ertekin

Prof. Dr. Vildan Ertekin is a pediatrician at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit with a focus on pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. She has more than 33 years in medicine and has worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2014.

Dr. Ertekin graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. From 1996 to 2001 she was a research assistant in the Child Health and Diseases Department at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, completing her training in Child Health and Diseases in 2001 and in Pediatric Gastroenterology in 2005. Between 2002 and 2007 she served in the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, and in 2007 she became Head of the Department as an Associate Professor. From 2010 to 2012 she was a faculty member of the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at İstanbul University, Faculty of Medicine, and from 2012 to 2013 she was Head of the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at İstanbul University, İstanbul Faculty of Medicine, where she became Professor in 2013. She is a member of the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Association, the Türk Pediatri Association, the Child and Adolescent Diabetics Association, the Clinical Enteral, Parenteral Nutrition Association and the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition. Her published work includes studies on celiac disease in children, hepatoportal sclerosis in childhood, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, autoimmune hepatitis in children and infantile colic.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ertekin’s clinical work covers pediatric digestive system diseases and pediatric hepatology and nutrition. She evaluates children with reflux, constipation, rectal bleeding and food allergies, as well as infants with lactose intolerance. Her areas of expertise also include celiac disease, pediatric liver diseases and the treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She additionally sees adolescents with obesity.

Where clinically indicated, she performs pediatric endoscopic evaluations as part of the diagnostic process. Treatment planning is discussed with the family after the child’s history, examination findings and any available test results have been reviewed.

How Dr. Ertekin works with international patients

Dr. Ertekin consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory and pathology results, ultrasound, MRI, CT or X-ray reports, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultations are available for international patients.
