Yeliz Başar, MD

Yeliz Başar, MD is a radiologist who practices at Acibadem Maslak Hospital and the Acibadem Göktürk Outpatient Clinic, both in İstanbul. She works within the Radiology unit, where her clinical interests are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound imaging. Dr. Başar graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. She has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2017, and her current work is divided between the hospital setting and the outpatient clinic.

Clinical focus

Dr. Başar’s practice covers three main imaging methods. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field and radio waves rather than ionizing radiation and is often requested when detailed images of soft tissues are needed. Computed tomography (CT) uses X-rays to produce cross-sectional images of the body and is frequently used when a rapid or detailed assessment of bone, chest, abdominal or vascular structures is required. In each case, the choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question asked by the referring physician, the patient’s history and any previous examinations. Dr. Başar’s role is to perform or supervise the examination as appropriate, interpret the images and prepare a report that describes the findings in a way that supports the diagnostic pathway. Imaging findings are considered together with the clinical picture, and further examinations or follow-up imaging may be suggested when the results are not conclusive.

How Dr. Başar works with international patients

Dr. Başar speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of which imaging examinations, if any, may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their existing imaging or the need for further examinations before traveling; whether a video review is sufficient depends on the individual case and the quality of the images already available.
