Zülal Ünlüer, MD

Zülal Ünlüer, MD is a radiologist practicing in the Radiology unit of the Acibadem Göktürk Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul. Her professional interests center on diagnostic imaging, with a particular focus on ultrasound imaging, mammography and Doppler ultrasound. She has worked in medicine for more than 44 years and has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2025.

Dr. Ünlüer graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1982. She then completed her specialty training in radiology at Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital, finishing in 1987. Since that time her clinical work has been dedicated to radiology, and she now applies this experience to the assessment of patients referred for imaging at the outpatient clinic.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ünlüer’s clinical work concentrates on three imaging methods. Ultrasound imaging uses sound waves rather than ionizing radiation to produce real-time images of organs and soft tissues, and it is commonly requested as a first-line examination for a range of complaints. Mammography is a dedicated X-ray examination of the breast that is used both for screening and for the further evaluation of symptoms or findings that need clarification. Doppler ultrasound extends conventional ultrasound by assessing blood flow in vessels, which can help in evaluating circulatory questions in the arms, legs, neck and abdomen.

In each of these examinations, Dr. Ünlüer performs or supervises the imaging, interprets the findings and prepares a written report for the referring physician. Because imaging findings are interpreted in the context of the patient’s history and earlier examinations, she reviews previous reports and images where these are available. The results of an examination are intended to support the treating physician’s decisions; whether further tests or treatment are needed depends on the individual clinical situation and is decided together with the referring team.

How Dr. Ünlüer works with international patients

Dr. Ünlüer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier ultrasound, mammography, MRI or CT reports and laboratory results, arranges appointments and organizes the visit to the clinic. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options, including which imaging examination, if any, is appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss imaging questions or existing reports before traveling.
