Clinical focus
In endocrine surgery, Dr. Uras treats patients with thyroid disease, where the decision between observation, medical management and surgery depends on the individual diagnosis and findings. He also performs surgery for obesity, including gastric bypass; suitability for bariatric surgery is assessed on a case-by-case basis after a review of the patient’s history, weight-related health problems and previous treatments. Robotic surgery is among his subspecialties and may be considered for selected procedures when the surgical team judges it appropriate.
His anorectal practice includes the treatment of hemorrhoids and anal fissures, ranging from conservative measures to surgical options depending on severity. He also performs umbilical hernia repair and mastectomy. Dr. Uras has co-authored publications on breast surgery topics such as sentinel lymph node biopsy, radioguided occult lesion localization for non-palpable breast lesions, and the dyes used in sentinel node procedures, as well as studies on intragastric balloon treatment in obesity and on repeat endoscopy in patients with gastric ulcer.
How Dr. Uras works with international patients
Dr. Uras consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit at either İstanbul location. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options, including whether surgery is indicated at all. For patients abroad, video consultation is available as a first step so that records can be reviewed and questions discussed before any decision about travel is made.
