Prof. Dr. Hakan Yavuzer

Prof. Dr. Hakan Yavuzer is an Internal Medicine specialist at Acibadem Atakent Hospital in İstanbul. His subspecialty is thyroid diseases and treatment, and his wider clinical work covers geriatric health, clinical nutrition, chronic disease management, obesity, anaemia, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and diseases of the pancreas, liver and biliary tract. He has more than 25 years in medicine and is a member of the Academic Geriatrics Association, the Turkish Association of Internal Medicine Specialists and the Turkish Medical Association.

Dr. Yavuzer graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and completed his specialty training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine in 2008. He became an Associate Professor in 2018 and a Professor in 2023. From 2009 to 2011 he worked at Şemdinli State Hospital (Chief Physician’s Office), followed by a position at Kadıköy Florence Nightingale Hospital from 2011 to 2012. Between 2012 and 2023 he worked at İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatrics. He then practised at İstinye University Hospital Medikal Park (2023–2024) and Medicana Zincirlikuyu Hospital (2025–2026) before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2026.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Yavuzer’s practice is the assessment and management of thyroid disorders. Patients with suspected or known thyroid disease are evaluated through history, clinical examination and review of existing laboratory and imaging results, with treatment planned according to the individual findings. He also manages type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, obesity and anaemia, often in the context of clinical nutrition and long-term chronic disease management.

His work in geriatrics addresses the health concerns of older adults, in whom several chronic conditions may coexist and require coordinated follow-up. Dr. Yavuzer also evaluates pancreatic diseases, liver diseases, including fatty liver disease, and diseases of the biliary tract. Where a condition falls outside the scope of Internal Medicine, the findings of his assessment can inform further evaluation by other specialties.

How Dr. Yavuzer works with international patients

Dr. Yavuzer consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as ultrasound, CT or MRI reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
