Evrim Ergin, MD

Evrim Ergin, MD is an anesthesiologist in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul. Her work covers the course of anesthesia care from the assessment carried out before a procedure, through the administration of anesthesia, to the monitoring of patients after anesthesia, as well as reanimation. She has more than 24 years in medicine and works with patients in Turkish and English.

Dr. Ergin graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. She then completed her specialty training in Anesthesiology and Reanimation at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2009. She has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2021.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ergin’s clinical focus is anesthesiology and reanimation. A central part of her work is the pre-anesthesia assessment, in which the patient’s medical history, existing test results and any earlier experience with anesthesia are typically reviewed so that an anesthesia plan can be prepared that is suited to the individual patient and the planned procedure. This assessment is also the point at which patients can ask how anesthesia will be given and what they may expect afterwards.

During the procedure itself, Dr. Ergin is responsible for anesthesia care, which includes administering anesthesia and observing the patient’s condition throughout. After the procedure, she is involved in post-anesthesia monitoring, during which the patient is observed as the effects of anesthesia wear off. Her area of practice also includes reanimation. Anesthesia care is provided in coordination with the surgical or interventional team treating the patient, and the specific approach depends on the type of procedure and the patient’s overall health. Because the suitability of a given anesthesia approach varies from person to person, it is assessed individually rather than decided in advance.

How Dr. Ergin works with international patients

Dr. Ergin communicates in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. In an anesthesiology setting, this is usually where the pre-anesthesia assessment takes place and where the anesthesia plan for the intended procedure is discussed, including any questions the patient has about the period after anesthesia. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used for an initial discussion before travel, although the final assessment is carried out in person before any procedure.
