Nihan Ölmez, MD

Nihan Ölmez, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla, where she works within the Radiology unit. Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Ölmez’s work involves ultrasound, including abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound, which is used to examine blood flow in vessels and organs. Ultrasound is a non-invasive method that does not use ionizing radiation, and it is often one of the first imaging steps in the evaluation of a wide range of symptoms. Depending on the clinical question, findings on ultrasound may be followed by further imaging with CT or MRI so that the anatomy and any abnormality can be characterized in more detail.

Breast imaging is another area of focus. Dr. Ölmez performs and interprets mammography and breast ultrasound, both of which are used in the assessment of breast complaints and in the follow-up of previously identified findings. Her head and neck imaging work includes the evaluation of structures in this region using ultrasound, CT and MRI as appropriate. She also uses fluoroscopy, a real-time X-ray method, when a dynamic examination is required. In each case the choice of imaging method depends on the referring question, the patient’s history and any imaging that has already been performed, and the resulting report is intended to support the decisions of the treating clinician.

How Dr. Ölmez works with international patients

Dr. Ölmez consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as earlier MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging studies, if any, would be appropriate next. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging or a proposed examination before traveling; a remote discussion does not replace an in-person examination or the imaging study itself, but it can help clarify which records to bring and what to expect during the visit.
