Twelve months of demand, by region and language
Total monthly searches, all markets
Monthly volumes rebuilt from each query’s 12-month trend; the last bar is the most recent month in the window.
By region
By query language
“Local language” covers German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Romanian query sets in their home markets; Arabic and Russian sets were run in the Gulf, North Africa and CIS markets.
Brand searches, reported separately
Searches for Acıbadem and its group hospitals by name total about 52,580 a month and are excluded from the index. Most come from countries where the group operates hospitals.
Methodology and limits
- Source: Semrush regional keyword databases, 12-month average monthly volume and relative monthly trend, read in September 2026.
- Query sets: 60 English procedure phrases in every market; local-language sets in German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, Russian and Arabic where the market speaks them. Every query names Türkiye or Istanbul.
- Categories are assigned by procedure family; “treatment in Türkiye (general)” holds hospital and destination queries without a procedure and can include non-travel intent.
- Quarter-on-quarter compares months 10–12 with months 7–9 of the window. Brand-name queries are excluded; single-month spikes are excluded and flagged in the CSV.
- Search demand is an intent signal, not a count of patients; small markets carry rounding noise and should be read as ranges.

Reading the index
What does the International Patient Demand Index measure?+
The average monthly number of Google searches, in 41 countries and nine languages, for procedures and treatment in Türkiye: for example "hair transplant turkey", "Haartransplantation Türkei" or "زراعة الشعر في تركيا". It is a measure of expressed interest in travelling to Türkiye for care, not of patient numbers.
Where does the data come from?+
From Semrush regional keyword databases, read in September 2026 for the 12 months to August 2026. Each market was queried with the same English set of 60 procedure phrases plus a local-language set where the market has one. Semrush reports 12-month average monthly volumes and a relative monthly trend.
How are quarter-on-quarter changes calculated?+
Each query’s monthly volume is rebuilt from its 12-month trend, then the latest three months are compared with the three months before. Changes on very small bases can look dramatic; the market and procedure tables therefore show the volume next to every percentage.
Why are brand searches excluded from the totals?+
Searches for Acıbadem, Bel Medic, City Clinic or Tokuda by name express interest in a specific provider, often domestic, rather than in travelling to Türkiye. They are reported separately so the index stays comparable across markets and providers.
Which queries were excluded as anomalies?+
Thirteen queries whose volume came from a single month (a viral spike) were removed from the totals but are kept in the CSV, flagged. The largest was "greffe de cheveux istanbul" in France, which registered its whole annual volume in one month.
Can I quote or republish this data?+
Yes. The dataset is released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0: quote, chart and republish it freely with a link to this page as the source. The CSV and the embeddable chart are provided for that purpose.
Does search demand equal patient numbers?+
No. It measures how many people research treatment in Türkiye, which is an early signal of demand. Official patient statistics are published separately by the Turkish Ministry of Health and TÜİK; this index complements them with market-level and procedure-level detail that those statistics do not break out.
How often is the index updated?+
Quarterly. Each edition keeps the same query sets so editions are comparable; new markets or languages are added as separate rows and noted in the methodology.
