Prof. Dr. Sarenur Gökben

Prof. Dr. Sarenur Gökben is a pediatric neurology specialist who practices in the Neurology unit at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir) in İzmir, Turkey. Her clinical work is devoted to the assessment and care of children with neurological concerns, an area in which she has trained and worked for several decades. Dr. Gökben completed her training at Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi. She finished her specialty training in Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları, the discipline of child health and diseases, in 1985, and subsequently completed her subspecialty training in Çocuk Nörolojisi, the neurology of children, in 1991. From 1997 to 2020 she held the position of Profesör at Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Pediatri Anabilim Dalı, where her academic and clinical activity was centered on pediatrics and pediatric neurology. Following this long university career, she continues her clinical practice at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir).

Dr. Gökben’s practice is focused on pediatric neurology, the field concerned with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles as they present in infants, children and adolescents. Families coming from abroad are supported by the international patient team, which coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit in İzmir. A first consultation with Dr. Gökben typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible next steps. Interpreters can be arranged so that parents can take part fully in the conversation and ask their questions in their own language.
