Abdullah Özel, MD

Abdullah Özel, MD is a pediatric surgeon at Acibadem Eskisehir Hospital in Eskişehir, where he works in the Pediatric Surgery unit. He studied medicine at Karadeniz Teknik University Faculty of Medicine between 1990 and 1996 and completed his specialty training in pediatric surgery at Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2007. He has spent more than 36 years in medicine and is a member of the Eskişehir Pediatric Surgery Association and the Turkish Pediatric Surgery Association.

After graduating, Dr. Özel worked as an emergency department physician at Bolvadin State Hospital (1996–1997 and 1998–2000), served as Chief Infirmary Physician and Medical Second Lieutenant at Tekirdağ Beşiktepe Barracks (1997–1998), and practised as a general practitioner at Eskişehir Health Center No. 16 (2000–2001). He then held pediatric surgery specialist positions at Nevşehir Obstetrics, Gynecology and Children’s Diseases Hospital (2001–2007) and at Eskişehir Obstetrics, Gynecology and Children’s Diseases Hospital (2008–2010). In 2009 he spent two months at Sudan Red Crescent Nyala Field Hospital as Chief Physician and Pediatric Surgery Specialist. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2023. His co-authored publications include work on ultrasound-guided internal jugular vein catheterization in children and a case report on a giant rectosigmoid lithobezoar in a child published in Eur J Radiol Extra in 2004.

Clinical focus

Dr. Özel’s clinical work covers a range of common surgical conditions in children. In pediatric urology, he assesses and treats hypospadias and performs circumcision. He also sees girls with labial adhesions, a condition in which the labia minora become joined and which may require evaluation and, in some cases, treatment.

His practice includes childhood hernias, among them umbilical hernia in children, as well as the evaluation and surgical management of appendicitis in children. These conditions form part of the wider pediatric surgery services offered at the hospital. Whether surgery is appropriate, and its timing, depends on the individual child’s findings and is discussed with the family after clinical assessment.

How Dr. Özel works with international patients

Dr. Özel consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages.
