Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Enes Arıkan

Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Enes Arıkan is a general surgeon at Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the General Surgery unit. His subspecialty areas are endocrine surgery, thyroid diseases and treatment, and obesity surgery, and his clinical work also covers breast surgery and surgical oncology. He has more than 17 years in medicine and holds the academic title of Associate Professor.

Dr. Arıkan graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and completed his specialty training in the Department of General Surgery at the same faculty between 2011 and 2016. In 2016 he was a Clinical Fellow at the University of Insubria, Chirurgia I, in Varese, Italy, and obtained the Turkish Surgical Association Proficiency Certificate. After working as a specialist at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine (2016–2017) and at Horasan State Hospital within the scope of compulsory service (2017–2018), he joined Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery in 2018, first as Assistant Associate Professor and, since 2023, as Associate Professor. He became a Fellow of American College of Surgeons in 2021 and holds the European Breast Surgery Diploma (2023) and the European Endocrine Surgery Diploma (2024). He is a member of the European Society of Endocrine Surgery, the Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, the Surgical Oncology Association, the Turkish Surgical Association, the European Society of Medical Oncology, the İstanbul Breast Science (Senology) Association and the Endocrine Surgery Association, where he serves as an Executive Board Member of the Adrenal Working Group. He also participates in the EORTC (European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer) Breast Cancer, Thyroid Cancer and Quality of Life groups. His published work includes studies on sutureless thyroidectomy, the effect of energy-based devices on voice quality after total thyroidectomy, nerve monitoring in thyroid surgery, minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, PET-CT in the assessment of adrenal masses, robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Arıkan’s practice is endocrine surgery, in particular thyroid diseases and their treatment, including thyroid surgery. He also treats patients with breast cancer and breast pain, performs mastectomy, and works in surgical oncology.

In the field of obesity surgery, his procedures include sleeve gastrectomy. The suitability of any surgical option is assessed individually after review of the patient’s history, examination findings and existing imaging.

How Dr. Arıkan works with international patients

Dr. Arıkan consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
