Prof. Aleks Değirmencioğlu, MD

Prof. Aleks Değirmencioğlu, MD is a cardiologist in the Cardiology Department at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. He then worked as a cardiology specialist at Özdere Special Training Center Command during his military service (2009–2010) and at Nusaybin State Hospital during his compulsory service (2010–2011). In 2013 he joined Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine as a lecturer, became Assistant Associate Professor in 2015 and has held the position of Associate Professor since 2017. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Chambers Association and the Turkish Cardiology Association. His published work includes articles on artificial intelligence in echocardiography, pericardiocentesis in patients with pericardial tamponade, cryoablation and radiofrequency ablation in atrial fibrillation, the learning curve for robotic-assisted mitral valve repair, radial artery spasm during the transradial approach, and cardiovascular aspects of COVID-19.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Değirmencioğlu’s practice concerns diseases of the coronary arteries. He assesses and treats patients with coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis, including those presenting with angina or after a myocardial infarction. He also follows patients with heart failure, where evaluation and ongoing treatment adjustment form part of long-term care, and patients with myocarditis.

His work further includes heart valve disease, in particular mitral valve regurgitation and aortic stenosis, as well as rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. Patients with hypotension are also seen in his clinic. Where a condition may require an intervention or surgery, the options are discussed with the patient on the basis of the individual findings.
