Dt. Aydın Akçakoca

Dt. Aydın Akçakoca is a dentist whose work centers on periodontology, the branch of dentistry concerned with the gums and the tissues that support the teeth, together with implant dentistry. He practices in the Dental & Oral Health unit at Acibadem Dr. Sinasi Can (Kadikoy) Hospital and Acibadem Atasehir Hospital, both located in İstanbul. Dt. Akçakoca graduated from Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry in 2014. He then continued his training in Periodontology at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry, completing this education in 2019. He has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2021. His clinical work combines the diagnosis and treatment of gum conditions with surgical and restorative procedures, including tooth extraction and the placement of dental implants.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dt. Akçakoca’s practice is devoted to conditions of the gums. He assesses and treats gingivitis, the early inflammatory stage of gum disease, as well as more advanced gum disease that can affect the bone and other tissues holding the teeth in place. He also manages gum recession, in which the gum margin moves away from the tooth and exposes part of the root, and discusses with patients the options that may be appropriate for their individual situation. Because periodontal problems often develop gradually, the assessment usually includes a careful examination of the gums and a review of any existing dental X-rays.

Dt. Akçakoca also carries out tooth extraction and places dental implants, which are used to replace missing teeth when the surrounding gum and bone are suitable. In addition, his clinical interests include temporomandibular joint disorders, which involve the joint connecting the jaw to the skull and the muscles around it, and botulinum toxin applications in dentistry. Whether a given treatment is appropriate depends on the findings of the clinical examination, and the possible benefits and limitations of each approach are discussed with the patient before a decision is made.

How Dt. Akçakoca works with international patients

Dt. Akçakoca consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as dental X-rays, CT reports, laboratory results and notes from previous treatments, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
