Prof. Ayhan Çevik, MD

Prof. Ayhan Çevik, MD is a Pediatric Cardiology specialist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Pediatrics unit. He has more than 31 years in medicine. He graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed his Pediatrics training at İzmir Dr. Behçet Uz Pediatric Diseases Training and Research Hospital in 2003. He then trained in Pediatric Cardiology at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, completing this training in 2011. He became an Associate Professor in Pediatric Cardiology in 2013 and was appointed Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at İstanbul Bilim University Florence Nightingale Hospital in 2014.

His professional experience began in pediatric diseases at Moris Şinasi Hospital (2003–2004) and Sani Konukoğlu Hospital (2004–2006), followed by a position with Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2006 and work as a Pediatrics Specialist at Acıbadem İzmit Hospital (2007–2008). After his subspecialty training, he practiced Pediatric Cardiology at Siyami Ersek Cardiovascular Surgery Hospital (2011–2012) and served as a Pediatric Cardiology Lecturer at Florence Nightingale Hospital from 2013 to 2020. He is a member of the Türk Milli Pediyatri Association, the Turkish Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Association and the İstanbul Medical Chamber. His published work includes studies on pulmonary arterial hypertension in children with congenital heart disease, echocardiographic assessment of right ventricular function and pulmonary arterial pressure, low-dose prostaglandin E1 in duct-dependent congenital heart disease, and surgical strategies for transposition of the great arteries.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çevik evaluates and treats children with congenital heart diseases, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart valve problems and arrhythmias. His diagnostic work includes echocardiography, and he performs cardiac catheterization when invasive assessment or intervention is considered appropriate for a child’s condition.

A further part of his practice is fetal echocardiography for prenatal cardiac diagnosis. When a concern about the fetal heart is raised during pregnancy, this assessment may help clarify the situation and inform planning for care around the time of birth. Each child’s evaluation is individual, and the findings are discussed with the family in the context of the overall clinical picture.

How Dr. Çevik works with international patients

Dr. Çevik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as echocardiography or other ultrasound reports, MRI or CT reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
