Berrin Arslan, MD

Dr. Arslan also diagnoses and treats pediatric infectious diseases, including upper respiratory tract infections in children, which are among the most frequent reasons for a pediatric visit. She sees children with PFAPA syndrome, a condition characterized by recurrent episodes of fever, and works with families to establish the diagnosis and plan management. Another area of her work is iron deficiency and anemia in children, where she evaluates the underlying cause, arranges the necessary blood tests and follows the child’s response to treatment over time. Treatment decisions are made on an individual basis, taking into account the child’s age, general health and the findings of the clinical examination and laboratory results.

How Dr. Arslan works with international patients

Dr. Arslan speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example ultrasound or X-ray reports, laboratory results, vaccination records and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing test results and any previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options with the parents. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be useful for an initial review of a child’s records or for follow-up after a visit to İstanbul. Whether a video consultation is suitable depends on the child’s condition, and in many cases an in-person examination is still needed before a diagnosis or treatment plan can be confirmed.
