Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bertan Cengiz

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bertan Cengiz is an orthopedic surgery and traumatology specialist at Acibadem Kayseri Hospital in Kayseri, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His practice covers foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, orthopedic oncology and pediatric orthopedics, and he has more than 20 years of experience in medicine.

Dr. Cengiz graduated from Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine in 2006 and completed his compulsory service as a general practitioner at Yozgat Boğazlıyan No. 2 Health Center in 2006–2007. He trained as a resident physician at the Ankara Training and Research Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic from 2007 to 2013, completing his specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2012, and then served his compulsory specialist service at Şırnak İdil Devlet Hospital in 2013–2014. In 2014 he worked as a specialist physician at Amasya University Sabuncuoğlu Şerefedin Training and Research Hospital, and from 2014 to 2020 he was a specialist physician at the Private Ankara Koru Hospitals Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. During this period he was also a visiting lecturer at Çankaya University Institute of Science (2016–2017) and an assistant professor at the Yüksek İhtisas University Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology (2018–2019). He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2020. He is a member of TOTBİD, AO Trauma, AO Spine, the Ankara Medical Chamber, the Turkish Sports Injuries, Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association and the Turkish Karate Federation Health Board. His published work includes papers on minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair, the role of soft tissues in the treatment of ankle and pilon fractures, Ilizarov external fixation for tibial plateau fractures, grafting methods in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis surgery, and complications following failed total knee replacement.

Clinical focus

Dr. Cengiz evaluates and treats orthopedic conditions in both children and adults. His areas of expertise include knee and joint injuries, anterior cruciate ligament tears and meniscus tears, as well as sports medicine and sports traumatology. He performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery for patients with advanced joint disease, and he carries out foot and ankle surgery and shoulder and elbow surgery.

He also works in orthopedic oncology, including the assessment and management of bone tumors, in deformity surgery, and in pediatric orthopedics. Treatment decisions are made after a review of the individual patient’s history, imaging and clinical findings, and non-surgical as well as surgical options are considered where appropriate.

How Dr. Cengiz works with international patients

Dr. Cengiz consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the possible options.
