Prof. Dr. Can Çalışkan

Prof. Dr. Can Çalışkan is a radiologist whose work focuses on interventional radiology and interventional neuroradiology. He sees patients at Acibadem Atakent Hospital and Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, working within the Radiology unit. He has more than 39 years in medicine, and his clinical interests include gastrointestinal oncology, ultrasound imaging, computed tomography, and transarterial radioembolization (TARE). He is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association, the Turkish Interventional Radiology Association, and the European Society of Radiology.

Dr. Çalışkan graduated from İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1987. His early career included posts at Siverek Health Center (1987–1990) and Yenibosna Health Center (1991–1992). He completed his radiology residency at the Ministry of Health Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital between 1992 and 1997, and then continued at the same hospital as a specialist physician in the Radiology Department from 1997 to 2006. From 2006 to 2012 he worked as a specialist physician in the Interventional Radiology Division of the Radiology Department there. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2010. His published work includes articles on ultrasound-guided percutaneous liver biopsy, transarterial microcatheter embolization of a bleeding bronchial artery branch, and the role of ultrasonography in the diagnosis and follow-up of testicular adrenal rest tissue in congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çalışkan’s practice centers on interventional radiology and interventional neuroradiology, in which imaging is used to guide minimally invasive procedures. Within gastrointestinal oncology, his areas of expertise include transarterial radioembolization (TARE), a catheter-based procedure that delivers treatment through the arterial supply. Whether a given procedure is suitable depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, imaging findings, and overall clinical condition, and this is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Diagnostic imaging is an integral part of his work. He has particular experience with ultrasound imaging and computed tomography, both of which are used to characterize findings, to plan image-guided procedures, and to follow patients after treatment. His publications on ultrasound-guided liver biopsy reflect the emphasis he places on lesion-focused, experience-based image guidance.
