Whether a replacement is appropriate, and which approach may be considered, depends on the individual patient’s findings, symptoms and general health, and is discussed on a case-by-case basis after clinical assessment and review of imaging.

Dr. Baran also treats sports and knee injuries. His areas of expertise include meniscus tears and cruciate ligament rupture, conditions that are common in active patients and that may be managed conservatively or surgically depending on the type of injury, the patient’s activity level and the examination findings. In addition, he performs foot and ankle surgery, addressing orthopedic problems of the foot and ankle within the scope of his subspecialty training. The treatment plan for each of these conditions is based on the patient’s history, the clinical examination and the available imaging, and alternatives are reviewed with the patient before any decision is made.

How Dr. Baran works with international patients

Dr. Baran consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before the visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation with Dr. Baran typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options that may be relevant to the patient’s orthopedic condition. Video consultation is available for international patients, which can be used for an initial discussion of the case or for follow-up when an in-person visit is not immediately possible; where a physical examination or new imaging is needed, this is arranged as part of the hospital visit.
