Prof. Cihangir Tetik, MD

Prof. Cihangir Tetik, MD is an orthopedic surgery and traumatology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His practice concentrates on hand surgery, pediatric hand and upper-extremity surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, and microsurgery. He has more than 49 years in medicine and obtained his Medical Specialty Board qualification in Hand Surgery in 2011.

Dr. Tetik studied at Ondokuzmayıs University Faculty of Medicine from 1977 to 1984 and completed his Orthopedics and Traumatology training at Ankara Training and Research Hospital in 1990. Early in his career he worked in hand surgery at French Pasteur Hospital (1989–1990), served at Diyarbakır Askeri Hospital (1991–1992) and at Ankara Hospital (1992–1995). Between 1993 and 1994 he trained in hand surgery and microsurgery at Utah University Faculty of Medicine, and in 1995–1996 he carried out plastic surgery microsurgery research at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the USA. From 1996 he held academic appointments at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, progressing from Lecturer to Assistant Associate Professor (1997), Associate Professor (1999) and Professor (2005). From 2008 to 2010 he was the Founding Head of Hand Surgery and Microsurgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2007. He is a member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association, the Turkish Hand Surgery Association, the Türk Rekonstruktif Microcerrahi Association and the America Society for Peripheral Nerve, and holds an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Affiliate Membership. His published work includes studies on microsurgical suture techniques, nerve repair techniques, cubital tunnel syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome and mallet fractures.

Clinical focus

Dr. Tetik’s clinical work centers on hand surgery and conditions of the hand and wrist. These include trigger finger, Dupuytren’s contracture, and hand and wrist injuries such as fractures and ligament, tendon and nerve injuries. Where repair of small structures is required, he applies microsurgery techniques.

He also treats children with hand and upper-extremity conditions, including polydactyly, within the field of pediatric hand surgery. A further part of his practice is shoulder and elbow surgery, together with the assessment of joint diseases affecting the upper extremity. Treatment planning is based on the individual diagnosis and injury pattern, and both surgical and non-surgical options may be considered where appropriate.

How Dr. Tetik works with international patients

Dr. Tetik consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
