Prof. Dr. Deniz Atasoy

Prof. Dr. Deniz Atasoy is a general surgeon at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the General Surgery unit. His subspecialty areas are the treatment of pancreas, liver and biliary tract diseases, the treatment of hemorrhoids and anorectal diseases, and robotic surgery. Dr. Atasoy graduated from Kabataş Erkek High School in 1993 and from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a general practitioner at Düzce Gölyaka Central Health Center before completing his General Surgery training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2010. He then worked at İstinye University, Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa Hospital, Department of General Surgery (2018–2019) and at Özel Medicana Çamlıca Hospital (2019–2020). He is a member of the Hernia Association, the National Trauma and Emergency Surgery Association, the Turkish Medical Association, the Turkish Surgical Association, the Turkish Hepato Pancreato Biliary Surgery Association and the Turkish Colon and Rectal Surgery Association. He has co-authored publications on robotic rectal cancer surgery, robotic complete mesocolic excision for colon cancer, laparoscopic restorative proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis, surgery in intestinal Crohn’s disease, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with previous abdominal surgery.

Clinical focus

Dr. Atasoy’s practice covers a broad range of general surgical conditions. In the anorectal field he assesses and treats hemorrhoids, anal fissure and other anorectal diseases. He performs colorectal surgery, including surgery for colorectal cancer, and uses robotic surgery where it is considered appropriate for the individual patient. His work in pancreas, liver and biliary tract diseases includes the evaluation and treatment of cholecystitis.

He also treats inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia, and performs thyroid surgery and mastectomy. Whether surgery is advisable, and which approach is suitable, is decided after clinical assessment and review of the available findings, and depends on the diagnosis and the patient’s overall condition.
