Prof. Dilaver Kaya, MD

Prof. Dilaver Kaya, MD is a neurologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in Istanbul, where he works in the Neurology unit. He has more than 33 years in medicine. His clinical work centers on stroke and preventive treatments, headache treatment, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and aging, and the treatment of movement disorders.

Dr. Kaya graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1993. From 1996 to 2001 he worked as a Doctor Research Assistant at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, where he completed his neurology training in 2001. He then held positions at Çamlıca Hayat Hospital (2001) and Acıbadem Healthcare Services (2002). At Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine he became Assistant Associate Professor in 2008 and Associate Professor in 2012. He is a member of the Turkish Neurology Association, the Turkish Epilepsy Association, the Brain Research Association, the World Stroke Organisation and the Cerebrovascular Diseases Association, and he served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the V. National Cerebrovascular Diseases Congress in 2010. He also sits on the editorial advisory boards of the Turkish Journal of Neurology and Turkish Family Physician. His published work includes articles on cervical artery dissection, venous sinus thrombosis, stroke prevention in primary care, hemicrania continua, cranial autonomic symptoms in migraine, and EEG and MRI changes in status epilepticus.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Kaya’s practice is the treatment and prevention of stroke, including the evaluation of patients with cerebrovascular disease and the planning of preventive treatment. He also treats headache disorders, including migraine, and performs nerve blocks as part of headache management. His work in epilepsy includes diagnosis and ongoing care for patients with seizure disorders.

In the field of neurodegenerative and age-related conditions, Dr. Kaya sees patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, as well as other movement disorders. He also evaluates and treats multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, ALS and other muscle and nerve diseases, and patients with sleep disorders. Treatment is planned individually after clinical assessment and review of the available test results.

How Dr. Kaya works with international patients

Dr. Kaya consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before the visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit.
