Duygu Gür Ünal, MD

Duygu Gür Ünal, MD is a pediatrician at the Acibadem Göktürk Outpatient Clinic in İstanbul, where she works in the Pediatrics unit and provides care for children and adolescents. Dr. Ünal studied medicine at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine between 1994 and 2000. During this period, in 1997–1998, she spent time in Primary Care Medicine at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2004 she completed her specialization in the Department of Child Health and Diseases at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine. Her subsequent professional experience includes Kadıköy Şifa Hospital (2005–2006) and Turkish Kidney Foundation Private Service Hospital (2006–2009). She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2009 and has continued her pediatric practice there since.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ünal’s practice is centered on general pediatrics, covering the health of children from infancy through adolescence. A large part of her work involves well-child follow-up: periodic visits in which a child’s growth, development and preventive health needs are reviewed, and in which parents can raise questions about feeding, sleep, behavior and everyday health concerns. These visits are intended to identify potential issues early and to plan any further assessment that may be needed.

She also evaluates and treats upper respiratory tract diseases in children, which are among the most frequent reasons families seek pediatric care. In addition, she works in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric infectious diseases, assessing children with acute infections, deciding which investigations are appropriate, and discussing treatment and follow-up with the family. Where a child’s condition requires input from another pediatric subspecialty, Dr. Ünal can advise families on the next step in assessment.

How Dr. Ünal works with international patients

Dr. Ünal consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory results, X-ray or ultrasound reports, and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the visit to the outpatient clinic. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing reports and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the options for further care or follow-up. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s situation before or after a visit to İstanbul.
