Prof. Düzgün Yıldırım, MD

Prof. Düzgün Yıldırım, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Taksim Hospital and Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Radiology unit. Dr. Yıldırım graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 2000 and completed his radiology training at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2006. His early career included service on the Turgut Reis Fırkateyni (2001–2002), followed by positions at Kasımpaşa Asker Hospital (2006–2011) and İskenderun Asker Hospital (2011–2012). Since 2019 he has held the title of Prof. Dr. at Acıbadem Mehmet Ali Aydınlar University, Vocational School of Health Services, Department of Medical Imaging Techniques. He is a member of TRD (Turkish Radiology Association), TMRD (Türk Manyetik Rezonans Association), RSNA (Radiological Society of North America), ESR (European Society of Radiology), the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), TUD (Medical Ultrasonography Association), and TNRD (Turkish Neuroradiology Association). His published work includes studies on deep learning approaches to thyroid nodule analysis on ultrasound, shear wave elastography in benign and malignant breast lesions, CT findings in thoracic trauma, olfactory cleft imaging in patients with COVID-19 anosmia, and functional connectivity patterns in parosmia.

Clinical focus

Dr. Yıldırım’s clinical work centers on diagnostic imaging. He performs and interprets ultrasound examinations, including Doppler ultrasound for the assessment of blood flow and thoracic ultrasound. His areas of expertise also include computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which are used to evaluate a wide range of conditions across the body.

Within abdominal radiology, he assesses imaging of the abdominal organs using ultrasound, CT, and MRI. In head and neck imaging, his work covers the evaluation of structures in this region, including the thyroid and the olfactory pathways addressed in his research. In the field of breast diseases, he interprets mammography and breast ultrasound, including elastography, to help characterize breast lesions. Findings from imaging are reported to the referring physician, who considers them together with the patient’s clinical picture when planning further evaluation or treatment.

How Dr. Yıldırım works with international patients

Dr. Yıldırım speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging examinations may be appropriate.
