Prof. Ebubekir Şenateş, MD

Prof. Ebubekir Şenateş, MD is a gastroenterologist with more than 13 years of experience in medicine. He joined Acibadem Health Group in 2025. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine in 2002, completed his Internal Medicine training at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2008, and completed his Gastroenterology training at Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital in 2011.

From 2013 to 2014, Dr. Şenateş was an Associate Professor at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Gastroenterology. Between 2014 and 2019 he served as a Faculty Member (Assoc. and Professor) at Istanbul Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital Gastroenterology Clinic. From 2019 to 2023 he was Professor of Gastroenterology and Clinical Supervisor at Medicana International Istanbul (Beylikdüzü) Hospital, where he was also a Liver Transplant Council Member. He was a Main Commission Full Member of the Clinical Evaluation Unit (formerly known as the Pharmaceutical License Commission) of the Turkish Ministry of Health, Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TİTCK) from 2016 to 2018, and has been a Substitute Member of the same commission since 2018. He is a member of the Turkish Internal Medicine Association (TIHUD), the Turkish Association of Liver Research (TKAD), where he is Secretary of the Viral Hepatitis Working Group, the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Association (IBD Association), the Turkish Gastroenterology Association (TGD), and the Viral Hepatitis Control Association (VHSD).

Clinical focus

Dr. Şenateş works across two main areas of gastroenterology. The first is liver disease, including viral hepatitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The second is inflammatory and infectious conditions of the bowel, including inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, collagenous colitis, chronic diarrhea and intestinal tuberculosis. His listed areas of expertise also include early gastric cancer and video gastroscopy, an endoscopic examination of the upper digestive tract.

His published work reflects these interests. Among his listed publications are studies on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, including its characterization when unrelated to the metabolic syndrome and the study of serum hepcidin and plasma fibrinogen-like protein 2 levels in affected patients; a retrospective survey of collagenous colitis in patients with chronic diarrhea; work on red cell distribution width as a marker of activity in inflammatory bowel disease; a study of conventional video-gastroscopes for the recognition of early gastric cancers; and research on an immunohistochemistry method to differentiate intestinal tuberculosis from Crohn’s disease in biopsy specimens. These publications appeared between 2010 and 2013.

How Dr. Şenateş works with international patients

Dr. Şenateş consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available, so patients abroad may speak with Dr. Şenateş before deciding whether to travel; the scope of any assessment given remotely depends on the records and images available at the time.
