Prof. Emel Güngör, MD

Prof. Emel Güngör, MD is a dermatologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, working within the hospital’s Dermatology unit. Her clinical work covers both medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology, including sexually transmitted infections, acne, wart treatment, cryotherapy, and injectable and radiofrequency-based skin procedures.

Dr. Güngör graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1989 and completed her residency in dermatology and venereal diseases at Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital in 1993. She then worked there as a specialist physician until 2000, and from 2000 to 2009 served as Deputy Chief of the Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Clinic at S.B. Ankara Training and Research Hospital. Her international experience includes time at the Medical College of Wisconsin, USA, Department of Dermatology in 1992, and at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA, in the Department of Dermatology and the Department of Infectious Disease, with a focus on AIDS and skin manifestations, in 1999–2000. She became an Associate Professor in 1998 and a Professor in 2016. Her academic positions include lecturer roles at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine (2012–2015), İstinye University Faculty of Medicine (2016–2018) and Okan University Faculty of Medicine (2018), all in the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases. She has also practised at Liv Hospital Ulus and as a consultant physician at Florence Nightangle Hospitals. She is a member of the Turkish Dermatology Association, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and several other dermatology-related associations. Her publications include articles on acne, ultraviolet radiation and photoaging, skin manifestations in sarcoidosis, and case reports on cutaneous lymphoma, Kaposi sarcoma and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

Clinical focus

In medical dermatology, Dr. Güngör assesses and treats sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis and genital herpes, as well as genital and body warts. She provides acne treatment and uses cryotherapy where clinically appropriate. Treatment plans are based on the individual patient’s findings and history, and the suitability of any procedure is decided after clinical examination.

Her cosmetic dermatology work includes botulinum toxin applications, mesotherapy, gold needle treatment and needle radiofrequency. She also offers treatment for wrinkles, hair, stretch marks and cellulite. As with medical conditions, cosmetic procedures are discussed with the patient in terms of expected effects, limitations and possible side effects before any decision is made.

How Dr. Güngör works with international patients

Dr. Güngör consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
