Erdem Toku, MD

Erdem Toku, MD is an Emergency Service physician at Acibadem Adana Hospital in Adana. With more than 22 years in medicine, his work centers on the assessment and management of urgent medical conditions, including burns, trauma, toxic exposures, environmental emergencies and airway problems. Patients who arrive at the emergency service with acute conditions are evaluated and treated under his care, with the aim of stabilizing the patient and determining the appropriate next steps.

Dr. Toku graduated from İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. From 2005 to 2007 he worked at İskenderun Red Crescent Blood Center, and from 2007 to 2008 he served as Bingöl Genç Military Physician. Between 2008 and 2009 he worked in the BSK Metropark Hospital Emergency Department. In 2009 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services, where he has continued his emergency medicine practice. He is a member of the Turkish Medical Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Toku’s areas of expertise cover a broad range of emergency presentations. In burn treatment, this includes the initial assessment of the extent and depth of the injury and early wound management. In trauma care, his role involves the rapid evaluation of injured patients and the coordination of urgent interventions. His work in toxicology concerns the recognition and management of poisoning and other toxic exposures, where the history of exposure and the timing of symptoms guide treatment decisions.

He also manages environmental emergencies, including drowning and acute hypoxia, where restoring adequate oxygenation is the immediate priority, and airway obstruction, which may require urgent measures to secure breathing. Bite and sting-related conditions form a further part of his practice: bee sting treatment addresses local and systemic reactions, while tick bite treatment involves careful removal of the tick and observation for later complications. Across these presentations, Dr. Toku performs the emergency interventions needed to stabilize patients before further care is arranged. Because emergency conditions vary widely, the course of treatment depends on the individual patient’s findings at the time of presentation.

How Dr. Toku works with international patients

Dr. Toku consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. For international patients, video consultation is available, which allows an initial discussion of the patient’s condition and existing records before any travel is planned. As with all emergency care, the timing and nature of treatment are determined by the clinical situation of each patient.
