Erkan Aliosman, MD

Erkan Aliosman, MD is an Emergency Service physician at Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital in İstanbul. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and has more than 21 years in medicine. His work centers on the initial assessment and management of patients who present with acute injuries, poisoning, burns, breathing-related emergencies and environmental exposures.

After graduating, Dr. Aliosman worked as an Emergency Department Physician at Baykent Medical Center in 2006 and at Medicana International İstanbul Hospital in 2008. Between 2006 and 2008 he was also with Medline Emergency Health Services. From 2009 to 2011 he held positions at İstanbul Küçükçekmece Health Center and Küçükçekmece Community Health Center, and in 2010 he served as a workplace physician (İşyeri Hekimi) for İstikamet İnşaat AŞ. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2011 and has practiced emergency medicine within the group since then.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aliosman’s areas of expertise include trauma care and emergency interventions for patients who arrive with acute injuries. He also provides burn treatment, from the first assessment of the injured area to the early stages of wound care in the emergency setting. Airway obstruction and drowning and acute hypoxia are further areas of focus; in these situations the priority is securing the airway and restoring adequate oxygenation as quickly as the patient’s condition allows.

Toxicology is another part of his practice. This involves the evaluation and management of patients with suspected poisoning or exposure to a harmful substance, where identifying the agent involved and monitoring its effects help guide treatment. Dr. Aliosman also manages environmental emergencies, including insect stings and tick bites. Reactions to stings and bites can range from mild local symptoms to more significant systemic responses, so early evaluation is advisable when symptoms progress. In each of these presentations, the emphasis is on stabilizing the patient, recognizing conditions that need urgent treatment and arranging further care or referral to other specialties where appropriate.

How Dr. Aliosman works with international patients

Dr. Aliosman consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be helpful for discussing an existing report or a follow-up question when a hospital visit is not immediately possible.
