Assoc. Prof. Erman Çilsal, MD

Assoc. Prof. Erman Çilsal, MD is a pediatric cardiologist practicing at Acibadem Atakent Hospital and Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, within the Pediatrics unit. He has more than 24 years of experience in medicine. His work centers on the assessment and management of structural and functional heart conditions in children, including congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, heart failure and heart valve disorders, as well as cardiac catheterization.

Dr. Çilsal graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. From 2004 to 2005 he worked as a research assistant doctor in the Department of General Surgery at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine. He then trained in pediatrics at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, serving as a research assistant doctor in the Department of Pediatrics from 2005 to 2010 and as chief assistant in pediatrics from 2009 to 2010, and completed his pediatrics training in 2010. He went on to complete his pediatric cardiology subspecialty at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, where he was a subspecialty research assistant in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology from 2010 to 2014. After finishing his subspecialty training in 2014, he worked as a pediatric cardiology specialist at Adana Numune Training and Research Hospital from 2014 to 2017 and at Adana City Training and Research Hospital from 2017 to 2018. From 2018 to 2026 he served as Associate Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at Mehmet Akif Ersoy Chest Heart and Vascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital in İstanbul, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2026. He is a member of the Turkish Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Association and the Hacettepe Child Health Education Development and Support Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Çilsal’s clinical interests cover a range of pediatric heart conditions. He evaluates and follows children with congenital heart disease, including atrial septal defect (ASD), and manages cardiomyopathy and heart failure in pediatric patients. He also assesses children with heart valve disorders.

Cardiac catheterization is among the procedures within his area of expertise. Whether a particular examination or procedure is appropriate for an individual child is determined after clinical evaluation and review of the available findings, and the options are discussed with the family.

How Dr. Çilsal works with international patients

Dr. Çilsal consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
