Evrim Abamor, MD

Evrim Abamor, MD is a Nuclear Medicine specialist at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Nuclear Medicine unit. She graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed her specialty training in Nuclear Medicine at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 2001. During her training, from 1996 to 2001, she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. She has more than 31 years in medicine.

After completing her specialty training, Dr. Abamor worked from 2001 to 2003 in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Abant İzzet Baysal University Düzce Faculty of Medicine. From 2003 to 2015 she was part of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Dr.Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital, and during this period she also worked at the Kızılay Altıntepe Medical Center Department of Nuclear Medicine (2005–2007) and at Betamar Çamlıca Imaging Center (2007–2008). She then worked in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Medipol Mega University Hospital from 2015 to 2018, at İstanbul Okan University Hospital in 2018, and at Kartal Dr.Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital from 2018 to 2022. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022. Dr. Abamor is a member of the Turkish Nuclear Medicine Association, the Turkish Medical Association and the European Society of Nuclear Medicine.

Clinical focus

Dr. Abamor’s clinical work centers on nuclear medicine imaging. Her areas of expertise include scintigraphy, PET (Positron Emission Tomography), myocardial perfusion scintigraphy and SPECT (Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography). These are diagnostic imaging methods that use small amounts of radioactive tracers to show how organs and tissues function, rather than only their structure.

Scintigraphy and SPECT produce planar and three-dimensional images of tracer distribution in the body, while PET is a further functional imaging technique used in a range of clinical settings. Myocardial perfusion scintigraphy is a nuclear imaging study of blood flow to the heart muscle. Whether a particular study is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s history, prior findings and the question posed by the referring physician, and this is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How Dr. Abamor works with international patients

Dr. Abamor consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and it arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before or instead of traveling.
