Prof. Gökhan Demir, MD

Prof. Gökhan Demir, MD is a specialist in Medical Oncology at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Medical Oncology Department. Dr. Demir graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1990. He then completed his training in Internal Medicine at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1995, followed by specialist training in Medical Oncology at the same faculty, which he completed in 1999. He has been working with Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2013 and currently practices at the Maslak hospital.

Treatment planning refers to the process of reviewing a patient’s diagnosis, prior investigations and general health in order to define an appropriate course of oncological treatment. The medical management of cancer involves the oncologist’s role in directing and supervising drug-based and other non-surgical aspects of cancer care over time, monitoring how the patient responds and adjusting the plan as needed. Decisions in medical oncology are made on an individual basis and depend on the type and stage of the disease, previous treatments and the patient’s overall condition. For this reason, Dr. Demir’s recommendations are made only after a full review of the individual case, and the appropriate approach may differ from one patient to another.

How Dr. Demir works with international patients

Dr. Demir consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior medical reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and current symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options that may be considered.
