Prof. Dr. Gülbin Bingöl

Prof. Dr. Gülbin Bingöl is a Pediatric Allergy specialist who works within the Pediatrics unit at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul. She has more than 34 years in medicine, and her clinical work is centered on allergic, respiratory and immune-related conditions in children, including childhood asthma, pediatric food allergies, childhood urticaria, atopic dermatitis, familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and PFAPA syndrome.

Dr. Bingöl graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. She then trained at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Department of Child Health and Diseases, where she worked as a Research Assistant from 1992 to 1997 and completed her pediatric training in 1997. From 1998 to 2002 she was a Specialist Doctor in the Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Department of Pediatric Allergy-Immunology, and in 2003 she completed training in Pediatric Immunology and Allergic Diseases at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine. Her academic posts at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine included Assistant Associate Professor (2002–2004), Associate Professor (2004–2010) and Professor (2010–2015). Between 2005 and 2006 she was a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Children’s Hospital of Boston, USA. She joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2011 and has been Professor at Acıbadem University Faculty of Medicine Department of Child Health and Diseases since 2015. She is a member of the European Respiratory Association, the European Allergy Clinical Immunology Association, the Turkish National Allergy Clinical Immunology Association, Türk Toraks Association, Türk Pediyatri Kurumu Association, Milli Pediatri Association, Pediatric Allergy and Asthma Academy Association and Asthma Patients Solidarity Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Bingöl assesses and treats a range of childhood allergies. Her work includes childhood asthma, pediatric food allergies and childhood urticaria. Because allergic and immune conditions in children can present with overlapping symptoms, evaluation usually involves a detailed history, a clinical examination and, where appropriate, a review of previous test results before a management plan is discussed with the family.

Skin conditions form another part of her practice, including atopic dermatitis treatment, contact dermatitis treatment and seborrheic dermatitis treatment. She also sees children with pediatric immune system disorders and with periodic fever conditions such as familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) and PFAPA syndrome, in which recurrent episodes of fever and related symptoms are evaluated to guide further care.

How Dr. Bingöl works with international patients

Dr. Bingöl consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports, such as laboratory and pathology results, imaging reports, previous prescriptions and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
