Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülcan Seymen

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülcan Seymen is a Pediatric Endocrinology specialist who sees patients at Acibadem Kartal Hospital and Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, within the Pediatrics unit. Her subspecialty area is Growth and Adolescence, and she has more than 29 years of experience in medicine. Dr. Seymen studied at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in the English program between 1997 and 2003. She then completed her Pediatrics Residency Training at İstanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Pediatrics, from 2003 to 2009, followed by compulsory service as a pediatrics specialist at Ardahan State Hospital from 2009 to 2013. She completed her Pediatric Endocrinology training at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine in 2016. During this period she directed the Kocaeli University Diabetes Summer Camp in 2014 and 2015, completed an observership in insulin pump insertion and management with Prof. Tadej Battelino at the University of Ljubljana, University Children’s Hospital, Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2014, and attended the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology Kış Okulu in Ohrid, Macedonia, in 2015. From 2017 to 2024 she worked as a Pediatric Endocrinology Specialist at Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital, and in 2024 she joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. She has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics including precocious puberty, type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children, Hashimoto thyroiditis, vitamin D deficiency in late neonatal hypocalcemia, early-onset obesity, and 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency.

Clinical focus

Dr. Seymen evaluates and follows children and adolescents with growth and puberty problems, including growth delay, short stature and early puberty. She also cares for children with childhood diabetes, drawing on her training in insulin pump insertion and management, and for those with pediatric thyroid disorders and pediatric adrenal gland disorders.

Her practice further includes disorders of sex development, pediatric developmental disorders and broader child and adolescent health concerns. Assessment is tailored to the individual child, and the need for laboratory testing, imaging or longer-term follow-up is decided after the clinical picture has been reviewed.

How Dr. Seymen works with international patients

Dr. Seymen consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for families who speak other languages. The international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as laboratory results, growth records, ultrasound or MRI reports, and previous discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the child’s history and symptoms, a review of existing test results and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their child’s condition before or after a hospital visit.
