Dr. Gülgün Atilla

Dr. Gülgün Atilla is a radiologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where she works in the Radiology unit with a subspecialty focus in interventional neuroradiology. Her practice covers diagnostic imaging across several modalities, including mammography, CT imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, X-ray imaging and fluoroscopy, together with head and neck imaging and musculoskeletal radiology. She has more than 36 years in medicine.

Dr. Atilla graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed her radiology training at İstanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1997. She then worked at Spektomar Imaging Center from 1997 to 2004, at İstanbul Surgical Hospital from 2004 to 2012 and at Ethica İncirli Hospital from 2012 to 2014, before joining Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2014. She is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association and the Turkish Medical Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Atilla’s diagnostic work spans the main imaging techniques used in a hospital radiology department. She reports mammography, CT imaging and magnetic resonance imaging, and performs and interprets ultrasound imaging, including Doppler ultrasound, abdominal ultrasound and thoracic ultrasound. Her work also includes conventional X-ray imaging and fluoroscopy. Within these modalities, she has particular experience in head and neck imaging and in musculoskeletal radiology, which concerns imaging of bones, joints and soft tissues.

In addition to diagnostic imaging, Dr. Atilla works in interventional neuroradiology, an area of radiology that uses image guidance for minimally invasive procedures involving the vessels and structures of the brain, head and neck, and spine. Whether an imaging study or an image-guided procedure is appropriate depends on the individual patient’s history, symptoms and existing findings, and is decided together with the referring physician after a review of the available information.

How Dr. Atilla works with international patients

Dr. Atilla speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the hospital’s international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their imaging findings or questions before deciding whether to travel.
