Dr. Ahmet Hakan Eren

Dr. Ahmet Hakan Eren is a Pulmonary Medicine specialist at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla, where he works in the Pulmonology unit. He has been in medicine for more than 44 years and is a member of the European Respiratory Society and the Turkish Respiratory Research Association.

Dr. Eren studied at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine from 1982 to 1989 and completed his specialty training in chest diseases at İzmir Tepecik Dr. Suat Seren Chest Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital in 1996. His earlier professional experience includes Denizli Central Health Center (1991), Kahramanmaraş Devlet Hospital (1996–1997), Adana Chest Diseases Hospital and Adana Özel Seyhan Hospital (1997–2003), Adana SSK Hospital (2003–2004) and Özel Universal Hospital in Adana (2005–2010). He has also worked with Acıbadem Healthcare Services, with roles dating from 2011 and 2018.

Clinical focus

Dr. Eren’s clinical work covers a broad range of lung diseases. He assesses and manages patients with asthma and COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism, as well as lower respiratory tract infections. His practice also includes the evaluation of lung nodules and the care of patients with lung and thoracic cancers, including mesothelioma. Where further investigation of a nodule or a suspected malignancy is indicated, this is discussed with the patient after a review of the existing imaging and clinical findings.

Diagnostic procedures in his practice include bronchoscopy and EBUS. He also provides respiratory treatment and rehabilitation and supports patients with smoking cessation, which is relevant to many chronic lung conditions. As with all acute and chronic respiratory disorders, the appropriate approach depends on the individual patient’s diagnosis, overall health and prior treatment, and is decided after clinical assessment rather than in advance.

How Dr. Eren works with international patients

Dr. Eren consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients and may be used for an initial review of records and a discussion of possible next steps before any travel is considered; a physical examination and, where needed, further tests would still take place in person.
