Prof. Hakan Seçkin, MD

Prof. Hakan Seçkin, MD is a neurosurgeon at Acibadem Bursa Hospital in Bursa, Türkiye, with more than 31 years in medicine. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his neurosurgery training at Dr. Muhittin Ülker Emergency Aid and Traumatology Training and Research Hospital in 1994. In 2006 he received a PhD from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Physiology.

After his residency, Dr. Seçkin worked as a specialist doctor at Samsun State Hospital from 1995 to 1996. From 1998 to 2012 he was based at SSK Ankara Dışkapı Training and Research Hospital, and in 2008 he was a Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Dept. of Neurosurgery. He served as an Associate Professor Doctor at Lokman Hekim Ankara Hospital from 2012 to 2017 and at Medicana Bursa Hospital in 2017. In 2021 he held the position of Prof. Doctor at BİRUNİ UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF MEDICINE, and he joined Acibadem Health Group in 2024. He is a member of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society.

Clinical focus

Dr. Seçkin’s listed areas of expertise cover both cranial and spinal neurosurgery. On the cranial side, these include intracranial epidermoid tumors and intracranial epidermoid tumor surgery, oligodendrogliomas, meningiomas and subarachnoid hemorrhage. His published work in these areas includes a retrospective analysis of surgically treated intracranial epidermoid tumors, a clinical study of prognostic factors in oligodendrogliomas, and studies on molecular markers that correlate with grade and recurrence in meningiomas.

In spinal neurosurgery, his listed expertise includes spinal cord ischemia, freehand C1 lateral mass screw fixation and posterior atlas lateral mass fixation. He has co-authored an experience report on the freehand C1 lateral mass screw fixation technique and an anatomical study on screw entry points and projection angles for posterior lateral mass fixation of the atlas. His publications also include experimental work on subarachnoid hemorrhage and transient spinal cord ischemia in animal models, and a study on cadaveric perfusion and angiography as a teaching tool for imaging the intracranial vasculature.
