Prof. Dr. Hakan Turan Çift

Prof. Dr. Hakan Turan Çift is an Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Kozyatagi Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. He has more than 24 years in medicine. His subspecialty areas are robotic surgery, foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, and shoulder and elbow surgery, with a particular interest in sports medicine and sports traumatology.

Dr. Çift graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. He then trained as a research assistant at Kırıkkale University Faculty of Medicine Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology from 2003 to 2008, completing his specialty training in Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2008. After a period of military service at Etimesgut Asker Hospital (2009–2010), he worked as a specialist doctor at SB Göztepe Training and Research Hospital 2nd Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic and, from 2010 to 2012, at SB Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital 2nd Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. Between 2012 and 2016 he held specialist, assistant associate professor, and associate professor positions at İstanbul Medipol University Hospital, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, followed by an associate professor role at Central Hospital (2016–2018). From 2018 to 2022 he was at Yeditepe University Hospital, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, first as associate professor and, from 2021, as professor. In 2021 he also completed the Marmara University Health Sciences Institute Physical Education and Sports Health Sciences Doctoral Program. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022. He is a member of the Turkish Sports Injuries Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery Association (TUSYAD), ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine), the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Association, AO (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen), the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (TOTBİD), and ESSKA (European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy).

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Çift’s practice concerns the hip and knee. This includes knee replacement surgery and hip and knee joint replacement, as well as robotic surgery where it is considered appropriate for the individual patient. He also treats sports-related knee and joint injuries, including cruciate ligament rupture and meniscus tear, and sees patients for limb lengthening and foot and ankle surgery.

In the upper extremity, his work covers shoulder and elbow surgery, including elbow surgery. Whether a surgical or non-surgical approach is suitable depends on the findings of the examination, the imaging, and the patient’s overall situation, and this is discussed on an individual basis.

How Dr. Çift works with international patients

Dr. Çift consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination, and a discussion of the possible options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation before travelling.
