Hüseyin Ercan, MD

Hüseyin Ercan, MD is a radiologist in the Radiology unit at Acibadem International Hospital (İstanbul). He graduated from Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 1992 and first completed specialty training in Internal Medicine at Taksim Training and Research Hospital in 1999. He later trained in Radiology at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, completing this training in 2010. With more than 34 years in medicine, his background combines clinical experience in internal medicine with diagnostic imaging.

Dr. Ercan’s early posts included Kisecik Health Center- Karaman (1993–1994) and Naval Forces Command Infirmary- Ankara (1999–2000). From 2000 to 2004 he worked as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Haseki Hospital 100. Yıl District Polyclinic. After completing his radiology training, he practised as a Radiology Specialist at Malkara State Hospital from 2010 to 2012, and in 2012 he joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services. He is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association and the İstanbul Medical Chamber.

Clinical focus

Dr. Ercan’s work covers a range of diagnostic imaging methods. His areas of expertise include ultrasound, in particular abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound, as well as ultrasonographic imaging more broadly. He also works with computed tomography, X-ray imaging and virtual angiography, and his interests include cardiac imaging and abdominal radiology.

A further part of his practice relates to breast diseases, where he performs and interprets mammography. In each of these areas, the role of the radiologist is to acquire and evaluate images and to provide a report that supports the referring physician in reaching a diagnosis and planning further care. Findings are interpreted in the context of the patient’s history and any previous examinations, which is why earlier reports and images are helpful when they are available.

How Dr. Ercan works with international patients

Dr. Ercan speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit itself. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of the imaging options that may be appropriate. Video consultation is available for international patients, which may be used to discuss existing imaging or to consider whether a further examination is advisable before travelling.
