Prof. Dr. Tuğsan Ballı

Prof. Dr. Tuğsan Ballı is a radiologist whose professional focus is interventional radiology. He sees patients at Acibadem Adana Hospital in Adana, within the Radiology unit, and has more than 24 years of experience in medicine. His areas of expertise include interventional radiology and transarterial radioembolization (TARE).

Dr. Ballı graduated from Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine in 2002 and completed his residency in the Department of Radiology at the same faculty between 2004 and 2009. He then worked as a radiology specialist at Ceyhan State Hospital (2009–2010) and Bingöl State Hospital (2010–2011) before returning to Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine as a radiology specialist in 2011. He was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology in 2012 and Associate Professor in 2020. In 2014 he spent time as an observer in Interventional Radiology at Johns Hopkins University. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2024. He is a member of the European Radiology Association (ESR), the Turkish Radiology Association, the Turkish Interventional Radiology Association, the Interventional Oncology Association and the European Interventional Radiology Association (CIRSE).

Clinical focus

Dr. Ballı’s clinical work centers on interventional radiology, in which imaging guidance is used to perform minimally invasive procedures. Within this field, his listed expertise includes transarterial radioembolization (TARE), a liver-directed procedure delivered through the hepatic arteries. Whether TARE or another image-guided procedure is appropriate depends on an individual assessment of the patient’s diagnosis, imaging and previous treatments.

His published research reflects this focus. He has co-authored studies on factors affecting survival after transarterial radioembolization in unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, outcomes of Yttrium-90 TARE in patients with the macrotrabecular-massive subtype of hepatocellular carcinoma, short-term changes in angiogenesis factors after TARE, and MRI-based radiomics analysis for predicting radiological response to TARE. Other publications address microwave ablation of colorectal carcinoma liver metastases, lumbar sympathetic blockade in lower extremity peripheral arterial disease, contrast-enhanced dynamic MRI of hepatocellular carcinoma, MRI texture analysis of adrenal incidentaloma, and compliance of interventional radiologists with interventional oncology accreditation standards.
