İlkar Aydın, MD

İlkar Aydın, MD is a radiologist at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the hospital’s Radiology unit. He graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and completed his specialty training in radiology at Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital in 1996. With more than 36 years in medicine, his practice covers diagnostic imaging across several modalities, including ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), mammography, X-ray imaging and fluoroscopy.

After completing his training, Dr. Aydın worked as a radiology specialist in the Radiology Clinic of İstinye State Hospital from 1996 to 2018. During part of this period, between 2004 and 2008, he also practiced in a private office at İstinye Radiology Imaging Center. In 2018 he served as a radiology specialist in the Radiology Clinic of Özel Avicenna University, and from 2021 to 2022 he worked in the MRI Department of the Radiology department at İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2022.

Clinical focus

Dr. Aydın’s work is centered on diagnostic radiology. A significant part of his practice involves ultrasound imaging, including abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound, which is used to assess blood flow in vessels and organs. He also interprets cross-sectional studies such as MRI and CT, and reports conventional X-ray imaging and fluoroscopy examinations.

His areas of expertise further include head and neck imaging, mammography for the evaluation of breast tissue, and musculoskeletal radiology, which addresses the bones, joints and soft tissues. In each of these areas, the radiologist’s role is to select the appropriate imaging protocol, review the acquired images and provide a written report that the referring physician can use in planning further assessment or treatment. Findings on imaging are interpreted alongside the patient’s clinical history, and the results are intended to support, rather than replace, the judgment of the treating clinician.

How Dr. Aydın works with international patients

Dr. Aydın speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who prefer another language. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example earlier MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of which imaging examinations may be appropriate. For patients who are not yet able to travel, video consultation is available so that existing images and reports can be discussed before any decision about in-person examinations is made.
