Prof. İlter Tüfek, MD

Prof. İlter Tüfek, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he practices within the Urology unit. His clinical work covers bladder health and urinary incontinence, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, kidney diseases, urethral disorders and urologic oncology. Dr. Tüfek graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1994. He then served as a urology specialist at Şişli Florence Nightingale Hospital from 1998 to 2010 and has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2004. He is a member of the Turkish Urology Association, the Endoüroloji Association, the Türk Androloji Association, the Üroonkoloji Association, the European Urology Association, the Dünya Endoüroloji Association and the American Urology Association. His published work includes papers on robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, robot-assisted and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic nephrectomy, retrograde intrarenal surgery for lower calyceal stones, holmium laser surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia and local anesthesia during prostate biopsy.

Clinical focus

A large part of Dr. Tüfek’s practice is dedicated to urologic oncology, including the evaluation and surgical treatment of prostate tumors, bladder tumors and kidney tumors. Where appropriate, he uses robotic or laparoscopic approaches, and his publications address topics such as robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and minimally invasive options for small kidney tumors. The choice between open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery depends on the individual patient’s findings and is discussed during the assessment.

He also assesses and treats urinary incontinence and other bladder conditions, benign and malignant prostate diseases, and urethral disorders. For patients with kidney diseases, including urinary stones, his practice includes minimally invasive stone surgery and endoscopic approaches such as retrograde intrarenal surgery. His work on holmium laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia reflects an interest in less invasive alternatives for benign prostate enlargement.
