Işık Hasan Özgü, MD

Işık Hasan Özgü, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Kent Hospital (Izmir), where he works in the Urology unit. He then held appointments at Başkent University Zübeyde Hanım Hospital, İzmir, from 1997 to 2009 and at Tepecik Training and Research Hospital, İzmir, from 1998 to 2011. He is a member of the Urological Surgery Association, the Turkish Urology Association and the Endoüroloji Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Özgü’s clinical work covers a range of urological conditions. In urological oncology, he assesses and treats patients with kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The approach to each of these cancers depends on the type and stage of the disease, the patient’s general health and the findings of imaging and pathology, and treatment plans are discussed with the patient once these factors have been reviewed.

A second focus is the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases, including benign prostatic hyperplasia, the non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause urinary symptoms. Dr. Özgü also sees patients with kidney stones and with hydronephrosis, a condition in which urine builds up in the kidney because its outflow is blocked or slowed. Evaluation in these cases generally involves a review of symptoms, laboratory tests where appropriate, and imaging to establish the cause before treatment options are considered.

How Dr. Özgü works with international patients

Dr. Özgü consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, arranges appointments and organizes the hospital visit.
