Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Selçuk

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Selçuk is a cardiovascular surgeon at Acibadem Atasehir Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Cardiovascular Surgery unit, with subspecialty interests in vascular surgery and varicose vein treatment. He has more than 21 years in medicine. Dr. Selçuk graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 2005 and completed his specialty training in cardiovascular surgery at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 2014. His professional experience includes a period at Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2010 and a post as Specialist Physician at the GATA Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic ANKARA from 2014 to 2017. Since 2017 he has worked as a Specialist Physician at İstanbul Sultan 2.Abdülhamid Han Training and Research Hospital, where he received his Associate Professorship in Cardiovascular Surgery in 2023. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as chest drainage and saphenous vein harvesting after coronary artery bypass grafting, sarcopenia as a risk factor after surgical revascularization for critical limb ischemia, outcomes of extra-anatomic bypass procedures, repair strategies for aberrant right subclavian arteries, prosthetic vascular graft management in above-knee amputations and treatment of high-risk pulmonary embolism.

Clinical focus

Dr. Selçuk assesses and treats conditions affecting the major vessels. This includes aortic aneurysm, other major vessel diseases and peripheral vascular occlusions, in which narrowed or blocked arteries reduce blood flow to the limbs. He also cares for patients with Buerger’s disease, an inflammatory condition of the small and medium-sized blood vessels that is frequently associated with smoking. Treatment planning in these conditions depends on the location and extent of the disease, the patient’s symptoms and general health, and the findings of imaging studies.

On the venous and lymphatic side, Dr. Selçuk provides varicose vein treatment and lipedema treatment, and he is involved in chronic wound care, which is often needed when poor circulation delays healing. Because vascular disease can affect several parts of the body at once, his assessment typically considers the arterial and venous systems together, and any recommendation is made only after a review of the individual case.

How Dr. Selçuk works with international patients

Dr. Selçuk consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages.
