İsmet Cengiç, MD

İsmet Cengiç, MD is a radiologist in the Radiology unit at Acibadem Fulya Hospital in İstanbul. With more than 23 years in medicine, his work covers diagnostic imaging across several methods, including ultrasonographic imaging, Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography, fluoroscopy and X-ray imaging.

Dr. Cengiç graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2003 and completed his specialty training in Radiology at the same faculty in 2011. His professional experience includes Şişli Belediyesi (2011–2012), SBÜ Van Training and Research Hospital (2012–2020) and Acıbadem Healthcare Services (from 2013). He is a member of the Turkish Radiology Association and the Turkish Medical Association. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications on topics such as thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsy, magnetic resonance enterography in refractory iron deficiency anemia, diffusion-weighted MRI of mediastinal lymph nodes in lung cancer patients, BI-RADS category 3 assessment at opportunistic screening, and radiology resident training, published in journals including Marmara Medical Journal and Academic Radiology.

Clinical focus

Dr. Cengiç performs and interprets a range of imaging examinations. His areas of expertise include head and neck imaging, abdominal ultrasound, thoracic ultrasound and Doppler ultrasound, which is used to assess blood flow in vessels and organs. He also works with computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray imaging for the evaluation of many parts of the body, and with mammography for breast imaging. Musculoskeletal radiology is another area of his practice, covering imaging of bones, joints and soft tissues. Fluoroscopy, a real-time X-ray technique, is also among the methods he uses. In each case, the choice of imaging method depends on the clinical question, the patient’s history and any examinations that have already been performed. The role of the radiologist is to select an appropriate examination, carry it out or supervise it, and provide a report that supports the referring physician’s diagnosis and treatment planning.

How Dr. Cengiç works with international patients

Dr. Cengiç speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, for example MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination where relevant, and a discussion of the imaging options that may be appropriate.
