Prof. Dr. Kaan Erler

Prof. Dr. Kaan Erler is a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery & Traumatology at Acibadem Bodrum Hospital in Muğla, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. His practice covers foot and ankle surgery, hip and knee replacement surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery, advanced limb reconstruction and orthopedic oncology. He has more than 40 years of experience in medicine and joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2025.

Dr. Erler graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy Faculty of Medicine in 1986 and trained as a specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology at GATA from 1989 to 1993, completing his training at Gülhane Military Medical Academy in 1993. In 1995–1996 he was an Orthopedic Oncology Fellow at Florida University and Shands Hospital, Florida University, in the United States. He attended the AO Basic Course in Davos, Switzerland, in 1997 and an OTA (OrtopedikTravma Association) course in Rhode Island, USA, in 2000. He served as Associate Professor of Orthopedics at GATA Military Medical Academy from 1996 to 2006, became a Professor in 2006 and was a Visiting Faculty Member at the MD ANDERSON Sarcoma Clinic in Houston, Texas, the same year. He then headed the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at GATA Haydarpaşa Training Hospital (2006–2008), worked in the orthopedics and traumatology department of Anadolu Sağlık Merkezi Hospital in İstanbul (2008–2016), and headed the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Yakın Doğu University Hospital in Lefkoşa (2016–2023). He was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Kıbrıs Uluslararası University (2023–2024) and Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Girne University (2024–2025). He is a member of TOTBİD (TURKISH ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION), the TURKISH ORTOPAEDIC TRAUMA ASSOCIATION, SICOT, TMSTS (TURKISH MUSCULOSKELETAL TUMOR SOCIETY), EMSOS (EUROPEAN MUSCULOSKELETAL ONCOLOGY SOCIETY), ISOLS (INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF LIMB SALVAGE) and the AO FOUNDATION.

Clinical focus

Dr. Erler treats joint diseases, including osteoarthritis, and performs hip and knee replacement surgery. His work in foot and ankle surgery and deformity surgery addresses structural problems of the limbs, and he also manages sports-related injuries such as meniscus tears and muscle tears. Shoulder and elbow surgery forms a further part of his practice.

In orthopedic oncology, he evaluates and treats bone tumors and bone cysts in children, and he performs advanced limb reconstruction for complex cases. His trauma work includes minimally invasive trauma surgery. Each patient is assessed individually, and the suitability of any surgical or non-surgical option depends on the diagnosis, imaging findings and the patient’s overall condition.

How Dr. Erler works with international patients

Dr. Erler consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages.
