Kamil Oğuzhan Döker, MD

Kamil Oğuzhan Döker, MD is an Emergency Medicine physician working in the Emergency Service of Acibadem Kartal Hospital in İstanbul. Clinical focus

A large part of emergency medicine involves patients who arrive with sudden injuries or with conditions that can change quickly. Dr. Döker has a particular interest in trauma, where the first priorities are a structured evaluation of the injured patient, identification of injuries that need immediate attention and coordination of further care with other departments when required. He also focuses on bee stings and tick bites. These are common environmental exposures; most cases are mild, but some patients develop local reactions, allergic responses or other complications that call for careful observation and, where appropriate, treatment in the emergency department.

His other main areas of interest are breathing-related emergencies. These include drowning emergencies, acute hypoxia (a sudden fall in the oxygen available to the body) and airway obstruction, in which the passage of air to the lungs is partly or completely blocked. In each of these situations, the emergency physician’s role is to recognize the problem early, support breathing and oxygenation, look for the underlying cause and decide on the next steps in care. The approach in every case depends on the individual patient’s condition, history and findings on examination.

How Dr. Döker works with international patients

Dr. Döker consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. For international patients, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the available options. Because emergency conditions usually require in-person assessment, the exact course of care is decided at the time of evaluation. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their situation, previous findings or follow-up questions remotely; whether a video consultation is suitable depends on the nature of the patient’s condition and on the information already available.
