Prof. Korhan Özkan, MD

Dr. Özkan graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2000. In the same year he trained at Allgemeines und Orthopaedisches Landeskrankenhaus Stolzalpe with Prof Reinhard Graf. He later spent time at three orthopedic oncology centers: Universitatklinikum Muenster in 2011 with Prof Dr Georg Gosheger, Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham in 2012, and Medical University of Vienna in 2013. His clinical positions have included specialist posts at Florence Nightingale Hospital Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology (2005–2006), İznik State Hospital, S.B Zeynep Kamil Training and Research Hospital and Acıbadem Healthcare Services (2006), followed by a long tenure at İstanbul Medeniyet University Göztepe Training and Research Hospital Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology from 2006 to 2023. He is a member of the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association (TOTDER), the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Union Association (TOTBİD), its Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors Branch, and the Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Union Education Council (TOTEK). He has co-authored publications on topics including skeletal metastasis, pathological fractures related to underlying malignant bone disease, endoprosthetic management of diaphyseal bone metastases, and a range of rare bone and soft-tissue tumors.

Clinical focus

Orthopedic oncology is a central part of Dr. Özkan’s practice. He evaluates and treats bone tumors, bone sarcomas and soft-tissue sarcomas, and performs oncological surgery for these conditions. His work also covers pediatric bone cysts. Because tumors of the bone and soft tissue can present in many ways, assessment typically depends on careful review of imaging and, where available, pathology findings before treatment options are discussed.

Alongside oncology, Dr. Özkan performs hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery. Whether a joint replacement is appropriate, and which approach is suitable, is decided individually on the basis of the patient’s symptoms, examination findings and imaging.
