Prof. Levent Eralp, MD

Prof. Levent Eralp, MD is an Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology specialist at Acibadem Maslak Hospital in İstanbul, where he works within the Orthopedics & Joint Center. With more than 35 years in medicine, his practice covers orthopedic oncology, advanced limb reconstruction, foot and ankle surgery, and hip and knee replacement surgery.

Dr. Eralp graduated from the University of Istanbul, Istanbul Medical School in 1991 and completed his residency in the Dept. Of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology there in 1996. He trained in joint replacement at Staatskrankenhaus Holzminden, Germany, in 1997 and earned an MSc in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Istanbul, Institute of Oncology in 2001. In 2003 he trained in oncologic orthopedics at University Hospital Kanazawa, Japan, under a SICOT Scholarship, and in 2004 he trained in musculoskeletal infections at Resurgens Orthopedics, Atlanta, USA. At the University of Istanbul, Istanbul Medical School, Dept. Of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, he served as Lecturer from 1997 to 2003, Associate Professor from 2003 to 2008 and Professor from 2009 to 2018. His professional experience also includes Memorial Healthcare Group (2012–2016), Acıbadem Healthcare Services (2016), The American Hospital and Koç School of Medicine (2016–2021), The American Hospital and Eralp and Eralp Private Practise (2021), and a consultant role with Wishbone Orthopedics, Warsaw, IL, USA (2020). He is a member of Societe Internationale Orthopaedics and Traumatologie (SICOT), International Society on Limb Salvage (ISOLS), Turkish Society of Orthopedics Surgery and Traumatology (TOTBİD), EBJIS – European Bone & Joint Infection Society, LLRS (limb lengthening and reconstruction society), Hip Knee Arthroplasty Association and Turkish ASAMI, and he holds a Brazilian ASAMI Honorary Membership.

Clinical focus

A central part of Dr. Eralp’s work is orthopedic oncology. He evaluates and treats patients with sarcomas, bone tumors and soft-tissue tumors, and performs oncologic surgery for these conditions. Closely related is his work in advanced limb reconstruction, which addresses complex bone conditions that may follow tumor surgery, injury or deformity. His practice includes limb lengthening and deformity surgery, and he also sees children with pediatric spasticity and pediatric bone cysts.

In addition, Dr. Eralp performs foot and ankle surgery and hip and knee replacement surgery. The appropriate approach in each case depends on the individual diagnosis, imaging findings and previous treatments, which are reviewed before any recommendation is made.

How Dr. Eralp works with international patients

Dr. Eralp consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, arranges appointments and organises the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options.
