Prof. Levent Türkeri, MD

Prof. Levent Türkeri, MD is a urologist at Acibadem Altunizade Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Urology unit. His subspecialties are the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases and robotic surgery, and much of his clinical work is in uro-oncology. He has more than 42 years in medicine and has been part of Acıbadem Healthcare Services since 2010.

Dr. Türkeri graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1984. Between 1989 and 1990 he was a general surgery rotator at Pittsburgh University Faculty of Medicine, Presbyterian University Hospital, in the United States. He completed his urology training at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1991 and worked there as a urology specialist in the Department of Urology from 1991 to 1992. From 1992 to 1993 he was a uro-oncology research fellow in the Department of Urology at Wayne State University Faculty of Medicine in Detroit. He became an associate professor in the Department of Urology at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1995, the same year he became director of the department’s Ergun Özalp Urology Research Laboratory. He completed a doctorate (PhD) in the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine between 1996 and 2004 and was appointed professor in 2011. He is a board member of the Urooncology Association and the Urological Surgery Association, and his memberships include the European Association of Urology (EAU), the American Association of Urology (AUA), the European Society of Oncological Urology (ESOU), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the Turkish Urology Association.

Clinical focus

Dr. Türkeri’s practice centers on prostate disease, including the evaluation and treatment of prostate cancer and of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Diagnostic work-up and treatment planning for prostate conditions form a large part of his clinical activity.

Within uro-oncology, he also sees patients with bladder cancer, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, urethral cancer and penile cancer. Robotic surgery is one of his subspecialties and is considered where it is clinically appropriate for the individual patient. He works within a multidisciplinary hospital setting, and treatment recommendations depend on the findings of each patient’s assessment.

How Dr. Türkeri works with international patients

Dr. Türkeri consults in Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for other languages. Before a visit, the Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit. A first consultation typically covers the patient’s history and symptoms, a review of existing imaging and previous treatments, a clinical examination and a discussion of the options. Video consultation is available for international patients who wish to discuss their case before deciding whether to travel.
