Prof. Lütfi Telci, MD

Prof. Lütfi Telci, MD is an anesthesiologist at Acibadem International Hospital in İstanbul, where he works in the Anesthesiology & Reanimation unit. His primary specialty is anesthesiology, with a subspecialty in intensive care. His clinical work covers anesthesia and resuscitation, intensive care, transplant anesthesia, clinical enteral nutrition, clinical parenteral nutrition, and organ transplantation coordination. Dr. Telci graduated from İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1974. Between 1977 and 1981 he worked in the İstanbul University İstanbul Faculty of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology as a specialist in anesthesiology and reanimation, and his specialization in the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation is dated 1981. In 1983 he worked in transplantation anesthesia at New Addenbrooke Hospital in England. From 1985 to 1987 he served as an assistant associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the same faculty, becoming an associate professor in 1987 and a professor in 1995. In 2012 he received Medical Specialization Board certification in intensive care. He joined Acıbadem Healthcare Services in 2007.

Clinical focus

Dr. Telci’s practice centers on anesthesia and resuscitation and on the care of critically ill patients in the intensive care setting. His areas of expertise also include transplant anesthesia, which he encountered during his time at New Addenbrooke Hospital, and organ transplantation coordination. A further part of his work concerns clinical enteral and parenteral nutrition, that is, the planning of nutritional support for patients who cannot eat normally, whether through the digestive tract or intravenously. These fields are reflected in his memberships in the Turkish Association of Anesthesiology and Reanimation, the Intensive Care Association, the Clinical Enteral Parenteral Nutrition Association, the European Socety of intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), and the Organ Transplantation Organizations Coordination Association. He is also a member of Darüşşafaka Cemiyeti.

He has co-authored research published in Türk Anest Rean Der Dergisi, including papers on corticosteroid therapy in early ARDS (2006), the effect of magnesium on blood-brain barrier permeability and brain edema after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage (2005), and the protective role of hypercarbine in lung injury induced by mechanical ventilation (2003). Whether a given approach is suitable for an individual patient depends on that patient’s condition and is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

How Dr. Telci works with international patients

Dr. Telci speaks Turkish and English, and interpreters can be arranged for patients who speak other languages. The Acibadem international patient team coordinates the collection of prior reports and imaging, such as MRI, CT, X-ray or ultrasound reports, laboratory and pathology results, operative notes and discharge summaries, and arranges appointments and the hospital visit.
